Veneers, also called laminates, are very thin porcelain or resin shells, customized in color and shape and bonded to your teeth. They can reshape broken, misshapen or irregular teeth, and correct discoloration that does not respond to traditional whitening.
Veneers are a conservative way to make over a smile. They are popular with celebrities and are an affordable, accessible option for many patients.
Veneers may be right for you if you want an alternative to crowns or caps, or if you have gaps, broken or chipped teeth, irregular shapes or misalignment. A consultation with a cosmetic dentist will tell you for sure.
You will receive a local anesthetic, and about half a millimeter is buffed from the tooth surface. A mold is taken for a dental lab to make your veneers. You then return to have them fitted, bonded and adjusted.
No special care is required, and you can brush and floss normally right away. Some sensitivity between the two appointments is normal.
